The following programmes are offered by the Tennis+ team. Email us on info@tennisplus.co.za for any more information regarding any of the options listed below.
+ Private / semi-private tuition
Specific tuition is available for juniors and adults looking for tailor-made instructional lessons to improve over a period of time. Private lessons are individual lessons of between 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the player's needs. Semi-private tuition is of a similar period but is for 2 players.
+ Specialised beginner and intermediate groups
These groups are age/ability related and cover all the aspects of the game of tennis, including stroke techniques (ground strokes, serves and volleys), court awareness and court etiquette. Special emphasis is placed on balance and control at the beginner level. Coaching at this level is based on International Tennis Federation's Tennis Play and Stay concept.
+ Advanced and squad coaching
This coaching is aimed at the intermediate to advanced player and focuses on goal-orientated drills, match-related situations, tactical and psychological awareness as well as the physical aspect. A video analysis can be conducted to assist players in understating the areas that require improvement and specific attention.
+ School squad training
School squad training takes place on-site at designated schools, either before school starts or afterwards. The focus here is on match-related situations and goal-oriented drills.
Schools currently in the squad training programme:
+ Winston Park Primary School
+ Hillcrest Primary School
+ New Hanover Preparatory School
+ Wartburg Kirchdorf School
An exciting development at the New Hanover Preparatory School is that tennis has been included in the school's formal time-table, and Tennis+ has developed a grade-specific coaching programme from Grade 3 to Grade 7 for all learners at the school. This allows children who would otherwise not have been exposed to tennis from participating, and often excelling at the game.
+ Sparring sessions
Sparring sessions are available for all levels of players. The focus of sparring sessions is two-fold, firstly for repetitive hitting of the ball under supervised eye, and secondly for the more advanced player to train for match-specific situations.
+ Adult coaching
Adult coaching ranges from beginner to advanced, and can also include the fine-tuning of specific skills. Individual or group options can be arranged. The main emphasis in adult coaching is not to change styles too much, but to work on existing playing styles, and to focus on improving consistency levels and the enjoyment of the game.
+ Junior social club
The main emphasis of the junior social club is court etiquette, positional and tactical play and mastering the rules of the game. This club is based at the Hillcrest Tennis Club and meets from 09h00-11h00 on every Saturday morning during the school term. Players must be able to serve and play form the baseline.
